Sarah...actually approves of this. Just to add some veracity to Atsuro's claim, she relaxes a little bit and allows her arm to transform back to its natural state, complete with scarlet-tipped black scales and large jagged spikes. She idly flexes the talons of her left hand as she nods sharply in agreement.

"Good response time and an appropriate level of caution when dealing with unknowns. Very nice."

Nano blinks in confusion at Atsuro's statement, but seems to catch on to what's happening here once Sarah chimes in. And even though she's a terrible liar herself and can't look the demons in the eye when she replies, Nano does her best to go along with things.

"...Yes! We're all very impressed. B-but, um, we need to test the whole maze."

The slimes look at each other, clearly confused. At first their little red eyes blinking at Atsuro, oohing and ahhin at Sarah's arms, and then moving behind the group to look at Nano's crank.

"New recruits? That doesn't really make much sense I thought this place was self-contained?..."

"And aren't we supposed to be the first row to protect the guardians, glop?"

"I always wondered about that! Why are we guarding a guardian? Does that make use guardian guardians?"

"...that's pretty deep, glup! Hey you!" The slimes surround the group. "Fellow not humans! We have a question for you!!"

"What are we doing here?"

Demons with identity crisis. Great.

Atsuro glances at Nano and Sarah briefly before launching into further logical and coherent explanations also known as total BS.

"Guardians need guardians to stop enemies from getting to them in the first place! And you've done a great job! We'll move on now to test the next set of guardians."

The slimes blinked again, whispering to each other about their logical and coherent explanation before finally accepting it as true fact.

"Next set? Which one are you going going for? There's four paths, one for each guardian..."

Atsuro vaguely wonders how he managed to put so many points into Charisma without noticing it. Or maybe these guys were just a little on the clueless side.

"We're going for the shortest path, of course. Just like an enemy would try - to blitz to the end the fastest. That's where you need the tightest security, so... we'll test that first."

"Are you their boss?" Cause he seemed to be the one leading things, as far as they were concerned. "You don't smell very demonic..."

Sarah takes a small metal disc out of an inner pocket of her coat and starts rolling it over knuckles, making sure to very conspicuously incorporate the set of four spikes growing backward from her hand into the routine.

"Actually, I'm the boss. He's just better at talking."

"That's right! And I'm, um..."

Oh god, why did she start talking.

"...I'm here to write the report!"

One of the slimes coughs.

"Where's your paper and pen to write it?"

Atsuro rolls his eyes in an exaggerated manner.

"I'm the one who presents as human so the guards think we're intruders and you'll respond accordingly. She's from one of the less organic demon families - she's typing up the report now."

He stares at Nano in what he hopes is a 'pull out your typing/writing functions now please' fashion.

Sarah finishes up her coin tricks by spearing the disc with one talon, spending a few seconds widening the hole before slipping the resulting loop on her right hand and inspecting it critically.

"Ah...!"

Hang on, give her a moment.

"U-um! I don't have any. I'm recording it all up here because I'm a robot, see?"

Nano points at her head, and then turns to the side to let the slimes see her key. She also makes 'beep boop' noises because that is totally adding to the realism, right.

"Recording!"

BEEP BOOP.

"Well in that case!" The slimes seem convinced by their bulls--their incredibly power of conviction. The upper slimes slide off to open them a space.

"Okay, so as you already know, the shortest pathway leads to the hardest guardian!"

"So in order from the corridors, it's left in the first corridor, and then right."

"If you want to test the treasure system, gloop, then take left twice!"

Good to know.

"But be careful, cause the guardian's been pretty grumpy lately. He's been waiting for humans to show up and test him but no one's done it yet."

"So he might just pretend you are and try to eat you thinking you're humans! We know you're not, but he's very violent. And he doesn't like to be woken up."

The other slimes nodded.

"Good luck! Just make sure not to press the button after him if you get there!"

"You wouldn't want to wake up what he's guarding!"

"Yeah, gloop, we promised!"

Wow this was incredibly helpful. Atsuro vaguely hopes Nano really does have a recording function just so they can be absolutely sure what the directions are.

"Thanks! ...When we submit our reports later, we'll be sure to mention what a good job you guys did. Keep up the good work."

He'll glance towards the other two with a slight grin. Time to abscond!

"We'll see you later, then. Back to your stations, now."

And Atsuro will quickly head down towards the left corridor. They could discuss the situation once they were out of earshot...

That was the most ridiculous bullshit session Sarah has ever witnessed, which is saying a lot, all things considered.

She'll just wait until they're out of earshot to actually say so.

"So... left and then right?" Nano asks, before she forgets the directions from before.

"We should probably hurry. We could go get the treasure, but I think defeating the monster is more important."

"...That's probably true, but I half wonder if the treasure isn't like the Staff of Banishing Nyarlathotep Forever and Saving Hinoto-Ri or something. I wouldn't put it past them."

Atsuro will continue whispering while glancing around.

"We probably should go on, though - what were they saying about a button?"

"Pressing the button will wake up something that's being guarded."

Sarah pauses for a second, clicking her talons together.

"By the way - would you prefer I change my arm back?"

"The thing that's being guarded might be the zodiac monster..."

Nano blinks, looking over at Sarah nervously.

"U-um... that's up to you, I suppose."

"...In which case, we need to press the button to wake it up to destroy it."

Atsuro glances at Sarah as well.

"Maybe you should keep it in case anything else tries to check up on us."

It wasn't that big of a deal compared to the demon apocalypse.

"Understood."

She pauses for a second before continuing.

"Just so you both know - my God Arc can fire healing lasers. If you cluster up, I can set off a radial bullet that should be able to heal all of us."

"Healing... lasers?"

That sure is a thing.

"That's good to know!"
